Featured CTSA Committee

The CTSA Education/Career Development Steering Committee provides a forum for the advancement of integrated and interdisciplinary education, training, and career development in the clinical and translational sciences and serves as a clearinghouse for novel concepts, methodologies, and approaches in curriculum development, program development, clinical research training, and recruiting. The committee also facilitates the dissemination of new teaching ideas and the sharing of curricula and teaching modules.

The committee chair, Dr. Sherine Gabriel, provided an update from the Steering Committee to the CTSA Consortium Operations Committee on July 24, 2007. Her report was enthusiastically received by the PIs, particularly with respect to the priority issues of scholar retention and IT/informatics.

Additional Priorities for the CTSA Education/Career Development Steering Committee include:

  • Continued collaboration with the NIH Clinical Center in CTSA Research Education efforts
  • Planning for the CTSA K12 meeting
  • Sharing coursework, web-based modules, and web-accessible resources from each institution among the CTSA training programs
  • Planning a meeting workshop to develop national standards, coursework, and core competencies for clinical and translational research. The 1½-day workshop will be scheduled for late January 2008.

CTSA Communication Tool Kit

The Consortium has begun developing a CTSA Communication Tool Kit on CTSAweb.org as part of the ongoing effort to inform the greater research community and the public about the goals and purpose of the CTSA program.

The Tool Kit provides a central location for access to background information on CTSA; a basic set of PowerPoint slides from NCRR about the CTSA program; articles highlighting the CTSA program; and a link to the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology's resource on communicating about clinical and translational science.

The development and expansion of this resource is an ongoing effort. We encourage you to review the web page and provide feedback on information that would be helpful to include as a part of the Tool Kit.

Please submit comments and feedback to Kameha Kidd.
