Featured CTSA Committee Update
The CTSA Community
Engagement Steering Committee is dedicated to ensuring
the successful implementation of a broad community engagement
plan among the CTSA sites by sharing knowledge, expertise
and resources. The goal of the CTSA Community Engagement Steering
Committee is to effectively engage communities in the translational
research process via bidirectional dialogues. Areas of focus
includebut are not limited tocommunity outreach,
access and dissemination of translational research results.
The CTSA Community
Engagement Steering Committee held its first face-to-face
meeting on February 27, 2007. Dr. Patty Carney was appointed
acting chair. The nomination process for electing a permanent
chair has been started, and the new chair is expected to be
in place for the fall meetings.
Since February, the Steering Committee has held monthly telephone
conferences to establish and refine its goals and to begin
to develop action plans. At the CTSA Consortium Operation
Committee’s monthly Web-conference meeting on June 11,
2007, Dr. Carney presented the working group’s mission
statement and reported on the group’s activities for
review and comment.
Priorities for the CTSA Community Engagement Steering
Committee include the development of:
- Evaluation
outcomes and metrics for community engagement research
- Shared resources and instruments
- A registry of community-generated
research ideas and needs assessment
- A relevant educational curriculum
Additional priorities include:
- Establishing community advisory
boards, multidisciplinary health advisory boards and clinician
health advisory boards
- Establishing/leveraging
partnerships for funding
- Developing a plan for interactions
with other national CTSA programs
- Developing
a multi-site research agenda to foster new research on the
dissemination and implementation of relevant clinical and
population-based research
Developing NCRR’s
New Strategic Plan
In order to prepare for the future, the National Center for
Research Resources (NCRR) is seeking input for a new Strategic
Plan covering 20092013. As a $1 billion-a-year
research center, NCRR enables NIH-funded researchers across
the country to translate basic discoveries into improved patient
care. The new plan will provide an important framework to strengthen
and integrate NCRR’s matrix of research programs, particularly
as NCRR continues to build the CTSA program.
To ensure that NCRR continues to meet the needs of biomedical
investigators and the CTSA consortium, we would like your input
on six questions, which were published in the Federal Register
on July 6, 2007. A user-friendly response form is available
at NCRR’s
Strategic Plan Web site, and responses are due by August
24, 2007.
Comments will help guide the discussion at our upcoming December
2007 Strategic Planning Forum.
If you have any questions, please contact the NCRR Office of
Science Policy and Public Liaison at 301-435-0866 or planeval@mail.nih.gov.
Announcements
University of Rochester publishes first edition of the CTSI
Collaborator e-newsletter: http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/ctsi/documents/NewsletterJuly2007.pdf.
Consortium committees begin planning workshops: CTSA-sponsored
workshops provide an opportunity for participants to focus on
a particular topic or activity in an in-depth, outcome-driven
fashion. The workshop formats may be face-to-face, Web conference,
or teleconference. Additionally, depending on the goals and
nature of a workshop, they may vary significantly in duration
and number of participants. Workshops are presented in yellow
highlight on the CTSA
Calendar.
