Clinical Research Resources

NCRR's Division for Clinical Research Resources administers the Clinical and Translational Science Awards, a part of the NIH Roadmap for Medical Research enabling researchers to provide new treatments more efficiently and quickly to patients. The Division also provides funding to biomedical research institutions to establish and maintain specialized clinical research facilities and clinical-grade biomaterials that enable clinical and patient-oriented research. It supports these resources through the following programs:

Clinical and Translational Science Awards

NCRR supports a national consortium funded through Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSAs) to accelerate the process that moves basic discoveries from the laboratory into the clinic, and then to further translate or deliver those research results to the communities and patients that need them. General Clinical Research Centers

NCRR funds a national network of 44 General Clinical Research Centers (GCRCs) that provide settings for medical investigators to conduct safe, controlled, state-of-the-art, in-patient and out-patient studies of both children and adults. Clinical Research Networks

NCRR has a leadership role in the Clinical Research Networks project—part of the NIH Roadmap for Medical Research—enabling researchers to provide new treatments more efficiently and quickly to patients. The project does this by supporting efforts to promote and expand clinical research informatics networks that can rapidly facilitate high-quality clinical studies addressing multiple research questions. Clinical Research Career Development

NCRR participates in Clinical Research Career Development programs of the National Institutes of Health. These programs are designed to attract talented medical students, physicians, dentists, and allied health professionals to the challenges of clinical research. READ MORE >>

Science Education Partnership Awards

The Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) Program funds grants for innovative educational programs in the life sciences. Such projects create partnerships among biomedical and clinical researchers and K-12 teachers and schools, museums and science centers, media experts, and other educational organizations. Small Business Opportunities

NCRR participates in the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program. Typically, the DCRR requests applications for grants, but it may solicit contract proposals. DCRR is especially interested in the application of clinical technology, instruments, devices and related methodologies that may have broad application to clinical research, especially as it pertains to enhancing the ability to do clinical research. Support for Conferences and Scientific Meetings

Scientific Conference Grants support national and international meetings sponsored and directed by the R13 grantees. Such meetings must be relevant to the goals of the Division for Clinical Research Resources. To ensure the division's interest in the proposed meeting, prospective grantees must contact a program official for written approval prior to submission of an application. If the division determines a sufficient need to have substantial involvement in the planning and conduct of the scientific meeting, then a cooperative agreement (U13)—instead of an R13—would be awarded.
